“I started banking with Legacy Credit Union when it was the University Credit Union. I have never had any issues with this bank and the staff is always nice and always willing to help. I’ve gotten car loans, checking, savings accounts and also the Christmas Club.”

Credit Union Member Benefits FAQs
How does Legacy Credit Union give back to the community?

Birmingham is our hometown, too. That’s why, in addition to the personal finance products and financial education we offer our members, we also focus on volunteer and service projects that help to make our region stronger.

What are the major differences between credit unions vs. banks?

While the priority of traditional banks is to ensure their external shareholders make a profit on every financial product, a credit union benefits its members only. That allows credit unions to charge lower fees and interest rates on loans, and to return more earnings to members in the form of higher dividends.

What are the main benefits of joining a credit union?

The advantages of credit unions include better savings and borrowing rates on deposit accounts and lower fees on products and services than other financial institutions. As member-owned, not-for-profit institutions, credit unions offer more personalized customer service and financial services tailored to your specific needs.

Is Legacy membership open to UAB students?

Absolutely. Legacy actually started as the University Credit Union to serve the UAB community members, and we continue to value your membership today. Go Blazers!
