The University of Alabama at Birmingham staff members established Legacy Credit Union in 1955 as a University Credit Union with the goal of serving the UAB community. Legacy went on to serve the education and healthcare industries for more than 50 years. After the expansion of the field of membership to include all seven counties of the Greater Birmingham Metropolitan Area, Legacy changed its name in 2006 to Legacy Community Federal Credit Union. That meant that anyone who works, lives, worships, or attends school in Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Walker counties is eligible for a Legacy Credit Union membership.
Legacy Credit Union is proud to be
The Official Credit Union of UAB and has supported UAB and UAB athletics for decades. In 2017, the UAB football program made its historic return following a two-year hiatus due to the University’s decision to cut the football, bowling, and rifle programs in December of 2014. Legacy Credit Union joined UAB in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the state-of-the-art Football Operations Center and Legacy Pavilion on Aug. 18, 2017. Legacy Credit Union contributed a 20-year, $4.2 million naming rights agreement for UAB to construct the practice pavilion, which is the largest sponsorship in UAB history.
