Legacy Credit Union Announced as 2022 Desjardins National Award Winner

Credit Union National Association, or CUNA, announced in November their 2022 National Award Winners. Legacy Community Federal Credit Union was selected as a recipient of the Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award. The award is named after credit union pioneer Alphonse Desjardins, and recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy for members and nonmembers of all ages and emphasizes the movement’s longtime commitment to financial education.

“For nearly 70 years, Legacy has served our community and members in all walks of life” said Legacy CEO, S. Glenn Bryan. “During that time, we have seen first-hand the dire need for financial education among both young people and adults. We have dedicated our organization to meeting that need, even embracing education as one of our core values.” When asked about what receiving this award means to Legacy, Bryan said “After eight consecutive years of state-level recognition, the honor of being named the national Desjardins Award Winner by CUNA is validation of our vision and values, and it will serve as motivation to pursue this mission into the future.”

Gina Cannady, Legacy’s Assistant Vice President of Training & Community Involvement, has been at the forefront of developing Legacy’s financial wellness program, LIFE Lessons. “LIFE Lessons is offered free to members, future members, staff and the community” said Cannady. “We explore various topics on financial wellness through both in-person and virtual settings.”

As a new year approaches, Legacy remains committed to finding new and creative ways of educating our members as well as members of our community.
