Keep Cards Secure this Holiday Season

Legacy wants you and your family to have a happy holiday season, but with holiday shopping there can be an increased potential for fraud, especially when you use a debit or credit card.  While we take every precaution to make sure that your card transactions are secure, there has been an increase around the country in a method of card fraud known as skimming.

Card skimming is an ongoing and serious problem.

Card skimming is the act of using a skimmer to illegally collect data from the magnetic stripe of a credit, debit or ATM card. This information, copied onto another blank card’s magnetic stripe, is then used by an identity thief to make purchases or withdraw cash in the name of the actual account holder.

As a card holder you should to be wary of card swipes that appear altered or have added devices. If you suspect a machine to have an illegal card skimmer attached, you should immediately report this to the management of the location in question. Members should also guard entry of their PIN from observers or cameras. Some devices have PIN pad enclosures, but most do not.
