Legacy Community Federal Credit Union has been awarded 5-Stars for financial strength by BauerFinancial, Inc., the nation’s leading bank and credit union rating firm.

BauerFinancial rates all banks and credit unions on a zero-to-five star scale with 5-stars being their highest and strongest rating. A 5-Star “Superior” rating indicates Legacy is one of the strongest financial institutions in the nation, excelling in areas of capital, loan quality and profitability.

BauerFinancial, Inc. has been analyzing the performance of U.S. banks and credit unions since 1983. No institution pays BauerFinancial to rate it nor can any choose to be excluded. Consumers may obtain free star-ratings by visiting Bauer Financial.

Legacy opened its doors as University Federal Credit Union in 1955 to serve the UAB community.  After serving the education and healthcare industries for over 50 years, the credit union expanded their field of membership to include the seven-county Greater Birmingham Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area and implemented the name change at the beginning of 2006.  As a community-chartered Credit Union, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb, Chilton, Walker, Blount and St. Clair counties is eligible for membership.

Legacy currently has eight branches throughout Metro-Birmingham, as well as being part of the Co-Op Shared Branch and ATM network. There are 5,400 nationwide branch locations with traditional person-to-person teller service and 30,000 ATMs available for Legacy members.
