In June of 2022, Legacy Credit Union, along with University of Alabama Basketball, Knight Eady, and Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, announced that the University of Alabama basketball team would play Gonzaga in the annual C.M. Newton Classic presented by Legacy Credit Union. The match up was set for December 17 at Legacy Arena.

The AP preseason poll ranked the Gonzaga Bulldogs at No. 2 and the Crimson Tide at No. 20. Since tipping off the regular season, the Bulldogs have fallen to Top 25 teams Texas, Purdue, and Baylor, while beating Kentucky and Xavier before playing the Tide. Nate Oats has led his team to wins over Michigan State and No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels, suffering only one loss over the UCONN Huskies. As the date for the Classic gets closer, both teams are currently set for an AP Top 20 matchup.

Within a week of tickets going on sale, the C.M. Newton Classic announced Legacy Arena was sold out. However, Legacy is giving away two (2) sets of two (2) tickets!
